10 years search and rescue

On course for solidarity

For 10 years, we have been committed to ensuring that no one fleeing their home country has to drown. We rescue, care for, bear witness and bring about changetogether with a committed civil society that tirelessly supports us. However, current political developments are making our work increasingly difficult. Europe is focusing on isolation. Our response: we are sending a second rescue ship – a sailing ship – to the Mediterranean to rescue even more people and bear witness to violations of the law at sea.

We need your support to launch the second rescue ship, Humanity 2! We need 900,000€ to purchase and convert the ship. It’s a large sum, but together we can raise it. Please support us with your donation!

We have been operating in the Central Mediterranean for 10 years and have seen the situation continue to escalate. Survivors report horrific human rights violations during their flight and at sea. Because search and rescue capacities are lacking and civilian ships are kept out of the area of operation, there is no one there to prevent or witness these violations of the law.

Since 2023, the escape route has shifted to the sea area between Europe and Libya. More rescue ships are urgently needed there. At the same time, people seeking protection in this area are experiencing massive human rights violations during violent repatriations. Because these have hardly been documented so far, they remain invisible and no one is held accountable.

With Humanity 2, we want to change that. The sailing ship perfectly complements our existing rescue ship Humanity 1 and rescues lives where hardly anyone has looked.

The more people support us on our #CourseOnSolidarity, the more awareness we can raise about the humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean and at the same time counteract the spread of false narratives and right-wing propaganda.

Join us: Together, we are looking ahead with determination and are committed to helping people in need and to a Europe of humanitarian values and human rights.
