Safeguarding

At SOS Humanity, respect, safety and respectful cooperation are our top priorities. A code of conduct and a safeguarding concept are therefore essential guidelines that underpin our values and our commitment to a safe environment.

The Code of Conduct defines clear standards of behaviour that promote positive cooperation and consistently counteract discrimination, abuse (of power) and misconduct. It provides guidance on how we can interact with and support each other in order to achieve our goals in an ethical and fair manner.

Together, these measures create a basis of trust that enables everyone to feel safe, heard and valued. This is not only our aspiration, but also our responsibility – towards our employees on land and at sea, partners, those rescued on board and the community in which we operate.

SOS Humanity has a zero-tolerance policy towards (sexual) harassment, exploitation and abuse. (Sexual) harassment, (sexual) exploitation and (sexual) abuse violate universally recognised international legal norms and standards and are always unacceptable behaviour.

If you have experienced or witnessed a safeguarding incident in connection with SOS Humanity, you can contact the ombudsperson at any time via the e-mail address safe@sos-humanity.org.

The Ombudsperson is an independent, neutral and impartial point of contact within SOS Humanity who is responsible for handling complaints, concerns or conflicts related to safeguarding. The Ombudsperson monitors compliance with safeguarding processes within the organisation and ensures that complaints about safeguarding are dealt with fairly and confidentially.
