Panel discussion on 11.09.2024: Humanitarian Aid at Sea

Podiumsdiskussion auf dem Open Ship
Antonia Bretschkow

As part of the Open Ship 2024, a panel discussion on the current humanitarian and political situation in the Central Mediterranean took place on 11 September. During our panel discussion on Wednesday, Mirka Schäfer, Sandro Gallinelli and Chiara Denaro highlighted how the EU’s restrictive foreign policy facilitates illegal pull-backs and the criminalization of civil search and rescue. How this violates international law instead of saving people. Which makes civil search and rescue even more essential.
