Rescue Report No. 17

Latest information:
In the night from 24 to 25 February our crew found a boat in distress. They could rescue all 71 survivors. The Italian authorities assigned Ravenna in northeastern Italy as a place of safety.

Spotted! Our crew spotted the first boat during lookout. For the second boat an emergency call was received from Alarmphone.

Both boats were unseaworthy, overcrowded rubber boats without any life-saving equipment.

Medical situation: survivors suffered from mild hypotheria and dehydration. Several were weak. Some of them had injuries or fuel burns.

As a port of safety for the first rescue the Italian authorities assigned Civitavecchia which is 870 kilometres away from the place of rescue. For the second rescue they assigned Ravenna which is 1,611 kilometres away.
