More about the Mediterranean Monologues
The Mediterranean Monologues are documentary theatre. Author Michael Ruf conducts interviews that last several hours, sometimes several days. These interviews are then simply abridged and condensed. Nothing is invented and the linguistic expression is retained. Verbatim, literal theatre. Inspired by these interviews, Michael Ruf also wrote song lyrics, which were musically realised in collaboration with composers.
The Mediterranean Monologues tell of people who take the risky journey across the Mediterranean in the hope of being able to live in safety in Europe – of so-called Libyan coastguards, Italian search and rescue centres and German authorities who prevent this and of activists who are doing something to stop the deaths in the Mediterranean.
