Internal Rescue Report No. 1 – H2

At noon, the 71 survivors rescued in two rescue operations in the morning and on the previous day disembarked in Lampedusa, the place of safety assigned by Italian authorities. This completed the first two rescues of the first operation with the new sailing vessel Humanity 2.

On the way north with 12 survivors on board, the crew of Humanity 2 encountered a second overcrowded boat and rescued 59 people from distress at sea in the early morning hours. Among the survivors were unaccompanied minors and three people with bone fractures.

The crew of Humanity 2 conducted the first rescue with SOS Humanity’s new sailing ship. Around noon, 12 people in distress at sea were rescued from a small fibreglass boat.

For the first time, we have two vessels in operation at the same time. Our rescue ship Humanity 1 and our sailing vessel Humanity 2 are in the operational area, being on lookout for people in distress at sea. Instead of survivors, the crew of Humanity 2 discovered several bodies drifting in the water.
