Care Coordinator (Humanity 2)

Since our founding in Berlin in 2015, SOS Humanity has been active as a civilian search and rescue organisation to ensure that no one has to drown at sea and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue ships Humanity 1 and Humanity 2 we operate in the central Mediterranean to rescue people in distress at sea, protect them and bring them to a place of safety.

For our operational crew we are looking for a Care Coordinator

The Care Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Conducting care-related trainings for the crew
  • Onboarding and briefing of care team members
  • Leading and training the care team
  • Maintaining oversight of care supplies and ensuring timely restocking
  • Acting as a communicator with people in distress during RHIB operations
  • Providing information on protection measures from the RHIB when a boat in distress is being stabilised
  • Coordinating the distribution of essential items to survivors once on board, and delivering protection briefings together with the Protection Representative
  • Coordinating crowd management and ensuring the well-being of survivors
  • Supporting disembarkation in a Place of Safety (POS) in coordination with the SARCo, including handover to NGOs and port actors, with a focus on identifying vulnerable individuals and medical needs
  • Leading the crew as part of the HOM Team

Qualifications:

  • Arabic manditory, French, or other relevant language skills appreciated
  • Experience working with people on the move
  • Knowledge of protection topics and the Italian asylum system
  • SAR experience
  • Experience with RHIB operations
