Laurin Schmid / SOS Humanity

Since our founding in Berlin in 2015, SOS Humanity has been active as a civilian search and rescue organisation to ensure that no one has to drown at sea and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue ships Humanity 1 and Humanity 2 we operate in the central Mediterranean to rescue people in distress at sea, protect them and bring them to a place of safety.

For our operational crew we are looking for an External Media Representative

The external media representative is an external journalist we invite on board for every rotation. Via written (print and online), audio or video journalism, they bring an important perspective as independent witnesses of the work of SOS Humanity and the situation in the Mediterranean Sea. The external media representative can also be filled by documentary filmmakers, researchers, or others if suitable.

The external media representative coordinates closely with the Communications Coordinator (CCB / CommsCo) when it comes to questions regarding fact-checking, consent, and our safeguarding policies for survivors on board.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent reporting of the work of SOS Humanity and the situation on the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Coordinating closely with the CCB in order to ensure that reporting is not in conflict with safeguarding and consent policies and also to check which sensitive information regarding the ongoing operation can be published.
