Berlin, 14.02.2025. Since the opening of the Berlin Film Festival “Berlinale” yesterday, numerous actors and filmmakers have been seen at the festival wearing scarves bearing the slogan Humanity For All!. Among them was German actress Meret Becker, who held up the scarf alongside her colleague Anna Thalbach on the red carpet during the opening gala. Around 60 celebrities are taking part in this initiative by the search and rescue organisation SOS Humanity, calling for more humanity.

Founded in Berlin in 2015, the search and rescue organisation SOS Humanity has been supported by prominent personalities of the film branch for nearly a decade. Now, at the 2025 Berlin International Film Festival, many celebrities are wearing the scarf created by SOS Humanity in collaboration with the sustainable fashion label armedangels. The scarf features the message “Humanity For All!” as well as the SOS morse code for distress signals at sea. Among those joining the cause are the actresses and actors Heike Makatsch, Meret Becker, Pheline Roggan, Luisa-Céline Gaffron, Verena Altenberger, and Hans-Jochen Wagner.

“Our commitment to humanity is fading”

The multi-award-winning actress Jördis Triebel is also committed to the campaign. “I support this campaign by SOS Humanity because our commitment to humanity is fading. The German federal election campaign has shown this drastically. Here at the Berlinale, I have the opportunity to visibly call for more humanity,” says Jördis Triebel.

The search and rescue organisation’s campaign is also supported by Changemakers.film, an initiative for environmentally and climate-conscious film production. As part of the Mediaboard reception on Saturday, February 15 at 8:00 p.m., it invites all guests to gather on the red carpet wearing their scarves, collectively calling for “Humanity For All!” at the Berlin Film Festival.

Without boundaries: human rights

Campaign initiator and SOS Humanity founding member Gianna Main explains: “The 75th Berlinale provides an ideal stage to bring the demand for universal humanity into the spotlight. Just before the federal elections — and in times marked by growing disregard for human rights and rising racism — we aim to draw attention to the catastrophic situation that refugees are facing in the Mediterranean, as well as our life-saving work. With our ‘Humanity For All!’ initiative, we are coming together to ensure that every individual is treated with dignity and that human rights are not confined by boundaries.”
