Medic (Humanity 2)
Since our founding in Berlin in 2015, SOS Humanity has been active as a civilian search and rescue organisation to ensure that no one has to drown at sea and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue ships Humanity 1 and Humanity 2 we operate in the central Mediterranean to rescue people in distress at sea, protect them and bring them to a place of safety.
For our operational crew we are urgently looking for a Medic:
The Medic is one of 15 roles within a 10-person crew and is therefore typically combined with another role or set of responsibilities. The Medic is responsible for:
- Assisting the Doctor in providing medical care to survivors and crew members
- Providing autonomous patient care, particularly in emergencies or when multiple patients require simultaneous treatment
- Supporting the Doctor in organising medical evacuations (MEDEVACs)
- Leading triage during mass casualty incidents
- Joining the RHIB team when required to assess people in distress
Qualifications:
- Accreditation as a nurse, paramedic, EMT, or equivalent
- Minimum of two years of full-time professional experience post-accreditation
- Demonstrated experience in acute and emergency care
- Ability to work under pressure in resource-limited environments
- Strong patient assessment and prioritisation skills
- Ability to independently lead ALS/BLS scenarios
- Experience in airway management, ventilation, and wound care
- Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity when working with traumatised individuals
