All remaining survivors were able to disembark the Humanity 1 on Thursday, 30 May. Disembarkation took seven hours, and the last survivors were only able to go ashore after 11 pm.

Spotted! The first four boats were reported by Alarm Phone. Our crew found the other two boats while lookout.

The boats were heavily overcrowded, unseaworthy and had no rescue or navigation equipment. The boats were two metal boats, two rubber boats, a fibreglass boat and a wooden boat.

Medical situation: The survivors were exhausted, seasick, dehydrated and some were suffering from severe burns and psychological stress. Many of them were children. One baby could only be rescued dead. The mother of the dead baby was evacuated together with the body and her other child for medical reasons.

As a port of safety for the disembarkation of the survivors of the first two rescues, the authorities assigned Marina di Carrara – 1,150 kilometres away. For the disembarkation of the survivors of the last four rescues, Livorno – 1,170 kilometres away – was assigned.
