People are dying every day in the Central Mediterranean – over the last 10 years, an average of 10 people per day, including one child. Europe’s response: detaining rescue ships, defaming NGOs and obstructing our life-saving work. But we are continuing our work – with a second ship, we are sending a clear signal against Europe’s closed-door policy and for more solidarity and humanity.
Twice as much humanity
In order to put this sailing ship into action and operate it on long term basis, we need people like you who will support us over the long term. Only through regular donations can we ensure the operation of both our ships and plan life-saving missions.

Tunisia
There is hardly any search and rescue in international waters off the Tunisian coast. Boats carrying people seeking protection disappear without a trace because rescues are not coordinated. Humanity 2 will fill this life-threatening gap.
People flee Tunisia in unseaworthy, often welded-together metal boats that can sink in seconds. An additional rescue ship can mean the difference between life and death.
The Tunisian Coast Cuard intercepts refugees at sea on behalf of the EU and returns them by force and illegally. In doing so, it systematically violates human rights. With Humanity 2, we will monitor and make these breaches of the law visible.
While the EU and its Member States shift the responsibility for search and rescue to third countries, civil society is taking action. The rescue and monitoring ship Humanity 2 sends a strong signal of humanity – precisely where Europe is failing.
A sailing ship for human rights
We need €900,000 to purchase Humanity 2 and make it fit for use as a rescue ship. Every euro brings us closer to our goal: with your help, we will make the ship ready for action, save people from drowning and send a strong message of humanity in the Mediterranean.
