Co-Skipper (Humanity 2)
Since our foundation in 2015 in Berlin, SOS Humanity has been active as a civil search and rescue organisation, working to ensure that no one on the move has to drown and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue vessels Humanity 1 and Humanity 2, we operate in the Central Mediterranean to rescue and protect people in distress at sea and bring them to a place of safety.
For our maritime ship crew, we are looking for a Co-Skipper
The Co-Skipper is one of 15 roles within a 10-person crew and is therefore typically combined with another role or set of responsibilities. The Co-Skipper is responsible for:
- Supporting the Skipper in navigation, passage planning, regularely checking the weather forecast, etc.
- Leading navigational watches
- Assisting with safety drills and training
- Conducting routine checks and supporting passage planning
- Assuming command if the Skipper becomes incapacitated
- Carrying out or delegating deck responsibilities
Qualifications:
- German SKS, UK Coastal Skipper, or equivalent
- Preferably SRC licence
- Several years of sailing experience
- Preferably experience in leadership roles (Skipper or Co-Skipper)
