Co-Skipper (Humanity 2)

Since our foundation in 2015 in Berlin, SOS Humanity has been active as a civil search and rescue organisation, working to ensure that no one on the move has to drown and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue vessels Humanity 1 and Humanity 2, we operate in the Central Mediterranean to rescue and protect people in distress at sea and bring them to a place of safety.

For our maritime ship crew, we are looking for a Co-Skipper

The Co-Skipper is one of 15 roles within a 10-person crew and is therefore typically combined with another role or set of responsibilities. The Co-Skipper is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Skipper in navigation, passage planning, regularely checking the weather forecast, etc.
  • Leading navigational watches
  • Assisting with safety drills and training
  • Conducting routine checks and supporting passage planning
  • Assuming command if the Skipper becomes incapacitated
  • Carrying out or delegating deck responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • German SKS, UK Coastal Skipper, or equivalent
  • Preferably SRC licence
  • Several years of sailing experience
  • Preferably experience in leadership roles (Skipper or Co-Skipper)
