Wanda Proft / SOS Humanity

Since our founding in Berlin in 2015, SOS Humanity has been active as a civilian search and rescue organisation to ensure that no one has to drown at sea and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue ships Humanity 1 and Humanity 2 we operate in the central Mediterranean to rescue people in distress at sea, protect them and bring them to a place of safety.

  • Cooking for up to 35 people without support from Chief and 2nd Cook
  • Ensure continuous catering for the crew throughout the crew change period, without days/weekends off.
  • Ensure maintenance procedures for kitchen equipment and facilities.
  • Liaising closely with the Chief Cooks and logisticians on stock planning and procurement.
  • Adhering to basic hygiene procedures in professional food handling, including proper hand hygiene, cleaning of equipment, segregation of cleaning materials and proper storage and disposal of food.
  • Maintaining a clean and organised work area throughout the cooking process.

Requirements:

  • Independence and the confidence to run the galley independently during crew changes in a team of 2 after an introduction by the galley team.
  • Experience in menu planning and preparing meals for large groups (up to 35 people).
  • Stamina and resilience to be able to work throughout the crew rotation without days off.
  • Knowledge of food handling and hygiene standards or willingness to learn and strictly adhere to them.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills to communicate effectively with other crew members and the logistics team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, especially in stressful situations.
