Since our foundation in 2015 in Berlin, SOS Humanity has been active as a civil search and rescue organisation, working to ensure that no one on the move has to drown and that everyone is treated with dignity. With our rescue vessels Humanity 1 and Humanity 2, we operate in the Central Mediterranean to rescue and protect people in distress at sea and bring them to a place of safety.

For our maritime ship crew, we are looking for a Skipper

The Skipper is responsible for:

• Passageplanning, navigating and manoeuvring of the vessel
• the safety of the crew and the vessel, and as the legally responsible person on board has overriding authority
• Leading safety trainings and drills of the crew
• Communicating with port authorities and handling all relevant administrative and bureaucratic requirements
• Leading the crew as part of the HOM (Head of Mission) Team

Qualifications:

• Yachtmaster Offshore, German SSS, or national equivalent
• SRC licence
• STCW Basic Safety
• Valid medical fitness certificate
• SAR experience
• Extensive experience as a skipper
• Italian and Arabic desirable, but not required
