SOS Humanity ist mit zwei Schiffen im zentralen Mittelmeer im Einsatz: der Humanity 1, einem 61 m langen ehemaligen Forschungsschiff mit einer 28-köpfigen Crew, und der Humanity 2, einem 24 m langen Segelschiff mit einer 10-köpfigen Crew. 

Beide Schiffe operieren auf unterschiedliche Weise und in verschiedenen Einsatzgebieten. So stellen wir sicher, dass wir fliehende Menschen bestmöglich unterstützen können. 

Dementsprechend unterscheiden sich auch die Crewstrukturen: 
Auf der Humanity 1 kannst du dich gezielt auf einzelne Positionen bewerben. Auf der Humanity 2 hingegen übernehmen viele Crewmitglieder mehrere Rollen gleichzeitig. Deshalb freuen wir uns, wenn du dich auf mehrere Positionen bewirbst, die für dich infrage kommen – die finale Zusammenstellung der Crew erfolgt durch das Crewing-Team. Der erste Einsatz der Humanity 2 geht von Anfang Juli bis Anfang August.

    In this role, you are responsible for the crew and deck work in the context of rescue activities. Bosuns carry out training for the crew as well as deck and crane work.

    Captain (Humanity 1)

    The Captain is responsible for commanding the vessel and for the overall coordination of rescue operations. Experience in search and rescue missions is required for taking on the role of Head of Mission.

    The CareCo leads and coordinates all survivor care-related activities, including communication in Arabic, distribution of essential items, crowd management, protection-related support, and is part of the RHIB team.

    With the help of the kitchen assistant, the chef cook provides the crew and the rescued people with two warm vegan meals a day.

    The Comms Lead manages communication, documentation, and information flow on board and with land structures, and coordinates media work on board.

    Crew Change Cook (Humanity 1)

    As a Crew Change Cook, you will play a key role in supporting the kitchen team during crew changes for around 12 days. Your main task is to manage the galley independently as a team of two and to relieve the kitchen team as much as possible during the handover and training sessions.

    Cultural Mediator (Humanity 1)

    Proficient in Arabic (C1-level or above), they facilitate communication between the crew and survivors during and after rescue, requiring cultural knowledge and translation experience, along with the ability to connect and communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds.

    As part of the engine-team, the electrician is supervised by the Chief Engineer but is also required to work autonomously as the sole electrician on board.

    First officers assist the captain before, during and after rescue operations. They are responsible for search and rescue navigation and the operation of the ship, and assist in the search for maritime emergencies.
