In this role, you are responsible for the crew and deck work in the context of rescue activities. Bosuns carry out training for the crew as well as deck and crane work.

The Captain is responsible for commanding the vessel and for the overall coordination of rescue operations. Experience in search and rescue missions is required for taking on the role of Head of Mission.

The CareCo leads and coordinates all survivor care-related activities, including communication in Arabic, distribution of essential items, crowd management, protection-related support, and is part of the RHIB team.

With the help of the kitchen assistant, the chef cook provides the crew and the rescued people with two warm vegan meals a day.

As head of the engine team, the chief engineer supervises all (maintenance) work on the engine. He advises the bridge team on all engine-related matters.

The Co-Skipper supports the Skipper in navigation and vessel management, leads watches, and takes over the ship command if required.

The Comms Lead manages communication, documentation, and information flow on board and with land structures, and coordinates media work on board.

Manages food planning, provisioning, and preparation for crew (and survivors if needed), ensuring reliable meal supply throughout the rotation.

As a Crew Change Cook, you will play a key role in supporting the kitchen team during crew changes for around 12 days. Your main task is to manage the galley independently as a team of two and to relieve the kitchen team as much as possible during the handover and training sessions.

Proficient in Arabic (C1-level or above), they facilitate communication between the crew and survivors during and after rescue, requiring cultural knowledge and translation experience, along with the ability to connect and communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds.

As part of the engine-team, the electrician is supervised by the Chief Engineer but is also required to work autonomously as the sole electrician on board. 

First officers assist the captain before, during and after rescue operations. They are responsible for search and rescue navigation and the operation of the ship, and assist in the search for maritime emergencies.

This person is responsible for carrying out, planning, documenting and overseeing all technical repairs and maintenance of the ship’s engines and electrical systems. 

The Media representative documents operations through photo and video, ensuring ethical storytelling and compliance with consent and safeguarding standards.

The Medic supports the Doctor in delivering medical care, including triage, emergency response, and patient assessment during operations.

The medical doctor, heading the medical team, makes decisions on medical emergencies like evacuations in collaboration with the care coordinator. Three years of medical practice, preferably in emergency medicine, are required.

The Doctor leads the medical response on board, providing care to survivors and crew in a low resource setting, managing the onboard clinic, and ensuring continuity of care.

In the position of Midwife on board Humanity 1, you will be primarily responsible for the medical care of pregnant woman and babies and will address gynecological concerns of those who are and are not pregnant.

As the paramedic or nurse on board, you are part of the 4-person medical team, consisting of medical doctor, paramedic OR nurse, midwife and mental health specialist on bord Humanity 1.

The Protection Representative ensures protection standards on board, identifies and supports vulnerable individuals, coordinates referrals and provides information on asylum and survivor rights.

The Rhib driver operates and maintains the RHIB, ensuring safe and effective deployment during SAR operations.

The RHIB lead coordinates the RHIB team, operations on the water, and manages communication between the RHIB and bridge during rescues.

The SARCo leads and coordinates all SAR operations on board, including planning, training, strategic decision-making and coordination with external actors.

This person assists with all engine-related tasks such as the maintenance and repair of the ship’s engine, deck and accommodation. They are also responsible for compliance with occupational safety and environmental protection guidelines.

Second officer supports the first officer in navigation and ship management and operation. They help with the administration of the bridge, watch duties and are responsible for the radios on board.

The skipper is responsible for safe navigation and overall command of the vessel, including crew safety, operational decision-making, and communication with authorities.

We are seeking a supervisor to join our pool of volunteer’s supervisors and take responsibility for the psychological support of the crew throughout 2026.

Supports maintenance and repair of engines, electrical systems, IT and general onboard equipment.

Leads navigational watches and supports deck operations to ensure safe vessel movement.
